It was bedtime.
Teeth not brushed.
Pajamas still on the floor.
Giggling when I had nothing left to give.
“Why does this have to be so hard?” I said — too sharply.
The room went quiet.
One of my kids looked at me with wide eyes.
Not defiant.
Just small.
And I realized — they weren’t being difficult.
They were being children.
And I was exhausted.
🪞 The Shift
So I sat down on the bed.
“I’m sorry. Mommy is just really tired. Let’s try again.”
Their shoulders dropped.
One climbed into my lap.
Nothing dramatic changed.
But everything softened.
🧩 The Real Lesson
Sometimes the lesson isn’t obedience.
It’s repair.
It’s showing our children that love doesn’t disappear when emotions rise.
That home is still safe.
That we can reset.
